Polymers

Do you wish your laundry had a protective layer after washing so that it doesn't get dirty again straight away? Very good, because that's exactly what Dylon can do thanks to the polymers it contains.

Worth knowing

Colourful laundry in a washing machine

Polymers in detergents fulfil various important functions and often make the special effect of a detergent possible in the first place.

Examples:

  • Foam regulators: Help to keep foaming under control. They prevent too much foam from forming or water from leaking out of the washing machine if too much detergent is added.
  • Discolouration inhibitors: Trap dye in the rinse solution and prevent discolouration caused by dye re-accumulation on textiles. They are a typical component of any effective colour detergent.
  • Greying inhibitors: Prevent the dissolved dirt from the detergent solution from re-depositing on the textiles. They also help to prevent the laundry from greying.
  • Cleaning polymers: They are absorbed by the fibres during washing and build up a protective layer. This makes it much easier to remove stains when oily substances re-soil.

How do we use polymers?

Dylon uses different polymers to achieve different product properties. For example, they prevent dirt from re-accumulating on the fibres, colour transfer or the deeper penetration of soiling. Many polymers are readily biodegradable, but unfortunately some are not. As our product development is constantly striving to improve our formulas and their environmental footprint, we are working on replacing polymers with more biodegradable ones, provided they can guarantee similar performance.
